An annual carpet cleaning is important for the good of the carpet and the health of the home. With spring here there's no better time than now for carpet shampooing. Here is a carpet shampooing tip sheet from Lexvac.com. (PRWEB) May 17, 2007 -- Spring has finally arrived and that means it is time for some serious spring cleaning. Once all the shelves and the molding around the doors have all been dusted, the bathroom scrubbed down from ceiling to floor, and every metal and ceramic surface in the kitchen is gleaming it is time to think about the carpet. Despite regular vacuuming and spot cleaning of all those little spills throughout the year a carpet can begin to look dingy. Now is the time to shampoo carpets. Here are some tips from Lexvac.com for a complete carpet shampooing. Adding a good carpet shampooing to the spring cleaning ritual is important. It's also good for the family's health. Lots of nasty little things can end up in carpet. Any time it is vacuumed or even walked on these little nasties can get kicked up into the air. So not only can regular shampooing keep carpets looking nice and fresh but it is generally better for the family, too. Rented shampooers usually come with the necessary cleaning products, often at an extra charge. Otherwise, make sure to use a solution that complies with the machine's manufacturer's specifications. If this particular product has never been used on the carpet before find an inconspicuous corner and test it out. Take some clean white cloths, the cleaning product and some water. Dip the corner of the cloth into the product and vigorously rub it into the fabric of the carpet. Make sure to work it in very well. Let it stand for a moment or two then dip a different corner of the cloth into the water. Rub this into the same place. Repeat until the cleaning product has been lifted from the carpet. Now rub the spot with a dry cloth until it is only damp. Once the spot has dried inspect it for any discoloration. If the spot looks unaffected it is time to start the shampooing process. The first step is to vacuum the carpet thoroughly. Make sure that everything possible is lifted from the carpet The more the vacuum cleaner can pick up the better the shampooer can concentrate on the stains and embedded dirt. Spray the carpet with pre-spray or traffic lane cleaner following the instructions on the label and concentrating on the dirtier or stained spots by applying more product. Increasing the amount of water and shampoo with the shampooer will not help, it will only make the carpet wetter and more difficult to dry. Once the carpet has been prepared, fill the reserve tank on the shampooer with the recommended amount of water and cleaner. Make sure to read and follow the instructions that come with the cleaner as each one is different. Move the machine across the floor taking care to cover the entire surface evenly. Use regular and steady movements so as to give the carpet a thorough and uniform cleaning. Once the whole carpet has been completely shampooed pass over it again with the unit on dry so that it is only sucking up excess water. Do not let the water sit on the carpet and do not over soak any area. It is important to be able to dry the carpet. If too much water remains for too long mold can set in or the padding and sub-flooring under that carpet can be damaged. After the final pass the carpet should feel damp to the touch but there should not be any visible water droplets clinging to the hand. Now let the carpet dry completely. If there are windows in the room, open them; if there's a ceiling fan, turn it on. Eight to ten hours is usually long enough to thoroughly dry a carpet but its dryness can be judged by touch. An annual carpet cleaning is important for the good of the carpet and the health of the home. With spring here there's no better time than now to shampoo carpet.
