Study Shows That Facial Fat Grafting Is Superior To Using Fillers

Who Would Think That Fat Is Good?? It's Beautiful When Placed Under The Eyes. The facial plastic surgeons at Profiles- Beverly Hills are using their patient's own fat to fill in the under-eye areas that often begin to "hollow out" as men and women reach their 40's and 50's.This is caused by the general loss of facial fat as part of the aging process, and by the effects of gravity pulling down on the fat pads that are located under the eyes. A new study published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery details the efficacy of facial fat grafting and specifically addresses the value of fat transfer under the eyes to correct a "hollowed out" appearance.

Who Would Think That Fat Is Good??

It's Beautiful When Placed Under The Eyes.

Peyman Solieman, M.D. and Jason Litner, M.D., facial plastic surgeons at Profiles- Beverly Hills are using their patient's own fat to fill in the under-eye areas that often begin to "hollow out" as men and women reach their 40's and 50's.This is caused by the general loss of facial fat as part of the aging process, and by the effects of gravity pulling down on the fat pads that are located under the eyes.

Although fat transfers have been used for some time, the advent of synthetic fillers has largely eclipsed the use of fat for volume restoration. However, new techniques in micro- transfer of fat combined with improved harvesting and preparation methods make fat transfer preferable in several applications. For instance, re-volumization of the under-eye areas require just 10 cc of fat, which is usually harvested from the patient's abdomen just prior to the procedure. Most patients will have little or no bruising, and the fat transfers will last for years rather than months, as is common with most injectable fillers.

A study just published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery details the superior results of facial fat grafting and specifically addresses the value of fat transfer under the eyes to correct a "hollowed out" appearance.

The doctor's premise is that many of the new patients that they have seen have either had some problems with injectable fillers (reactions, unsatisfactory results or the "showing through" of the fillers under thin skin )and/ or that they'd like to have something more permanent done. Cost is also a factor, as most fillers will require a "re-do" within several months, at most within a year.

The doctors use a technique of micro- injections of fat using a small cannula- the technique allows a higher percentage of the transferred fat to "take" and to develop a blood supply. Consequently, they achieve long-term correction of the hollowed-out areas (meaning years, not months) and they require just one treatment.
