Several studies have indicated that parabens--preservatives that are widely used in cosmetics, bath, and body products--can potentially cause health hazards, including lymphoma and breast cancers. The FDA does not currently regulate parabens. Sonya Dakar Skin Care advocates more research & regulation into parabens. Sulfates--compounds that act as detergents in cleansing products--are also under scrutiny. These foaming agents strip the skin of its natural oils, causing skin irritations among those who are routinely exposed to the compound.
"Our decision to re-formulate our facial masks is the next step in making the entire Sonya Dakar Skin Care Collection paraben-free and sulfate-free," says Nate Dakar, President of Mindys Cosmetics. The re-formulated masks are now supplemented with natural (non-paraben) preservatives derived from corn fermentation or preservatives that are found in everyday food items. The formulations' other components draw from nourishing ingredients such as Dead Sea Mud, Chinese Kaolin Clay, Green Tea & Marine Algae.
