RealityCast’s debut show breaks new and exciting ground in the reproductive and sexual health debate infusing humor into the progressive news, information and commentary for which RHRealitycheck.org is known. (Vocus/PRWEB ) September 6, 2007 -- What do you get when you mix Amanda Marcotte, one of the most intelligently irreverent writers in the political blogosphere, with the web site Jon O’Brien, President of Catholics for a Free Choice, calls, “…a vital tool in the battle we are waging over reproductive rights in the U.S. and internationally. The perfect antidote to counter the all the right’s misinformation!”? You get RealityCast, RHRealitycheck.org’s brand new podcast. RealityCast’s debut show breaks new and exciting ground in the reproductive and sexual health debate infusing humor into the progressive news, information and commentary for which RHRealitycheck.org is known! Add Amanda’s Mailbag, where listeners’ questions on sexual and reproductive health are answered and you’ve got 21 minutes of the most entertaining, thoughtful and informative reproductive health coverage you’ll find anywhere. In the ongoing reproductive and sexual health debate, it helps to know what the opposition is saying -- no matter how bizarre or nonsensical. RealityCast’s debut episode examines the latest anti-choice analysis of the Harry Potter series -- Harry Potter as the “archetype of an abortion survivor.” Are young readers around the world consuming the Harry Potter books because they are all “suffering from abortion survivor syndrome”?
It’s not all doom and gloom! You need to know the good news as well. Protect yourself and contribute to the global effort to empower people with the information, services and leadership they need to safeguard their sexual and reproductive health and rights by keeping up with the news from the left. Amanda interviews Martha Kempner, Vice President for Information and Communications at SIECUS (Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States) about her organization’s advocacy for and plans to bring comprehensive sexuality education to public schools around the country. And Plan B, the name under which emergency contraception is sold, recently celebrated its one-year anniversary as an over-the-counter medication. Amanda examines Plan B’s somewhat sordid journey filled with FDA commissioners’ alleged criminal behavior, political manipulation and, “sex-based cults.” Sometimes the reproductive rights dialogue is front-loaded with politics and rhetoric leaving little room for the voices of real people, affected by real issues. Listen to Amanda’s Mailbag this week as “Confused College Girl” shares her difficult story of an unwanted sexual encounter and hear Amanda’s heartfelt advice.
