VisiVite.com Files for Patent on Unique Macular Degeneration Supplement

Removal of Vitamin E from High Dose Eye Vitamins Provides Safety for Certain Patients.

Huntington, NY (PRWEB) November 18, 2008 -- VisiVite.com, an industry leader in eye health supplements, announced this week the filing for a United States patent application for an eye vitamin formulated to improve macular degeneration and provide safety for people on anticoagulation therapy.

The nutritional supplement, VisiVite i-Defense E-Free Formula, is based upon the groundbreaking 2001 Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) performed by the United States National Eye Institute. That research showed for the first time that high dose nutritional supplements could prevent the progression of macular degeneration. The AREDS formula included high doses of beta-carotene, Vitamins C and E, Zinc and Copper.

However, people who take Coumadin (warfarin) are frequently advised by physicians to avoid the high doses of Vitamin E used in AREDS because of the increased risk of bruising and hemorrhages.

The Grene Vision Group (http://www.grenevisiongroup.com) based in Southeastern Kansas and consisting of 42 optometrists and ophthalmologists in 20 offices, recommends VisiVite eye vitamin supplements for their patients. Spokesperson and partner, Dr. Steven Kuhl, explains, "We were impressed with the attention to quality and individualization of treatment that VisiVite supplements offer for our patients with macular degeneration. One example of this is VisiVite i-Defense E-Free Formula, which provides a customized level of nutritional therapy for our patients who cannot, for medical reasons, safely take high doses of Vitamin E."

The American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting, held earlier this month in Atlanta, Georgia, focused on the rapidly changing treatments and diagnostic tests for Age Related Macular Degeneration.

Since its introduction in early 2006, VisiVite i-Defense E-Free Formula has undergone annual sales growth of 260%, clearly fulfilling an unmet need.

VisiVite i-Defense E-Free Formula includes high dosages of Vitamin C and Zinc, the carotenoids Lutein and Zeaxanthin, Bilberry, Grapeseed Extract, and additional antioxidants.
