Orthopedic Specialist Dr. Evan Collins of Methodist Hospital Presents His Latest Research Findings at International Hand Conference

Orthopedic specialists from around the world gather in Australia to hear latest advances in hand and wrist care.

Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 25, 2007 -- One of Methodist Hospital's leading hand and upper extremity specialists, Dr. Evan Collins, was among the invited guests asked to present his latest research findings at the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) held recently in Australia.

Presenting to nearly 2000 attendants representing medical facilities and organizations from around the world, Dr. Collins revealed new findings in specialized hand and upper extremity orthopedics, which will facilitate the early diagnosis and treatment of common degenerative joint conditions. He also presented research on new surgical techniques designed for the small bones and joints of the hand and wrist.

A published author and leader in the field of orthopedics, Dr. Collins continues to launch new studies into the most effective form of imaging for the small bones and joints of the hand and wrist, as well as preferred surgical techniques and implants for the complex joint structures of the hand and upper extremity.

"Through trial and research not only does technology improve, but also our understanding of the small bones and joints of the hand and upper extremity. And by applying what we have learned, we're able to postpone the degenerative affect that daily wear and tear have on these joints," said Dr. Collins.

"Ultimately all of our research translates to a higher quality of life for the patient," he added.

Addressing many degenerative joint conditions in his practice, Dr. Collins most recently launched a study examining the effectiveness of a surgical technique utilizing a biodegradable mesh implant developed from the biomaterials platform of a Swedish biomaterials and orthobiologics company.

"This newest approach is dramatically reducing recovery time and improving long-term outcome for patients suffering from chronic thumb and wrist pain associated with osteoarthritis," said Dr. Collins.
Dr. Collins has been recognized for his work with injured workers returning from Iraq and featured among H Texas Magazine's Super Docs. He is part of the official orthopedics team responsible for the Center for Performing Arts Medicine (CPAM) and a number of professional sports teams. He is a member of such renowned orthopedic associations as the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the Texas Society of Sports Medicine, the Texas Orthopaedic Association, and the Houston Orthopaedic Society.
