Orion Health Concerto Portal Integrates Data and Workflow for Shared Health's Clinical Xchange Platform

Shared Health®, one of the largest public/private health information exchanges (HIE) in the U.S., is now using Orion Health technology solutions to enable an integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) and provide access to its clinical data platform, Shared Health® Clinical Xchange™. Shared Health worked with Orion Health to enable an integrated EHR and provide access to patient data from disparate systems through the Concerto Portal solution.

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) November 11, 2008 -- Shared Health®, one of the largest public/private health information exchanges (HIE) in the U.S., is now using Orion Health technology solutions to enable an integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) and provide access to its clinical data platform, Shared Health® Clinical Xchange™.

Shared Health http://www.sharedhealth.com worked with Orion Health, http://www.orionhealth.com a leading provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector, to enable an integrated EHR and provide access to patient data from disparate systems through the Concerto Portal solution.

The Shared Health platform also uses Orion Health's chronic disease management solution to create an online form of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics' (TNAAP) http://www.tnaap.org child wellness, safety and nutrition guidelines. By creating electronic forms based on the existing TNAAP system, immunization records, safety and wellness statistics from across the state can be tracked to better target and respond to child health issues.

Orion Health North America President Paul Viskovich says Shared Health is the first HIE to leverage Concerto's strengths in integrating health data and workflow applications in a unified, patient-centric view.

"This empowers healthcare workers and affects better healthcare," he says.

"Clinical Xchange also is the first application of Concerto as a patient portal, and is a demonstration of how flexible the solution is. This is an example of how the payer community can use clinical integration technology to advance the quality of healthcare in its region."

"Clinical Xchange is built on a scalable, flexible platform that supports secure, interoperable communications among a wide variety of health industry constituents," said Jana Skewes, president and CEO, Shared Health.

"Orion Health's standards-based technology is an essential component of the Clinical Xchange's ease of use and workflow by tying into standards-based infrastructure across platforms including Oracle® http://www.oracle.com, Initiate Systems http://www.initiatesystems.com and Allscripts™http://www.allscripts.com/."

After logging in to Clinical Xchange, clinicians select a patient from a search executed against the enterprise master patient index (EMPI), provided by Initiate Systems. A patient-centric view is then displayed, based upon information retrieved from the central data repository, Oracle's Healthcare Transaction Base solution. From within this patient centric view, the physician is able to prescribe medications, using Allscripts ePrescribing application and update critical health data, using custom forms from within Concerto.

Concerto's technology makes it possible for physicians to access information such as problem lists, which provide an at-a-glance view of a patient's condition based on data from a number of sources including laboratory information and historical care. Healthcare workers also use the Concerto interface to access Care Opportunities data, which includes treatment and preventative care checklists both directly available to clinicians and to patients through a patient portal.

About Concerto Portal:

Concerto http://www.orionhealth.com/concerto/ is a single sign-on physician portal that connects multiple hospital information systems, to provide a secure 'single patient view' of data across all clinical applications. Concerto provides a secure and consistent graphical environment that supports the ways that physicians interact with data and eliminates the need for physicians to sign-on multiple times to separate applications to view patient records.
