Reducing the Risk of DVT for Canadian Patients

ArjoHuntleigh announces that it has been awarded a major contract by HealthPRO, the largest Group Purchasing Organization in Canada.

Mississauga, Ontario (PRWEB) November 16, 2008 -- ArjoHuntleigh Canada: ArjoHuntleigh announces that it has been awarded a major contract by HealthPRO, the largest Group Purchasing Organization in Canada.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot usually in the veins of the leg. It can be life threatening and may be the leading cause of preventable hospital deaths in North America. One means of preventing DVT is to use a mechanical pump during surgery. The five year contract will allow ArjoHuntleigh to promote its Flowtron system among HealthPRO's 475 hospital members.

John Thiessen, General Manager of ArjoHuntleigh in Canada commented; "We are delighted to have won this substantial contract for our DVT business in Canada. The new ArjoHuntleigh organization in Canada is focused on people with a lack of mobility and related conditions. DVT is one of the potential complications of immobility." He adds; "We are pleased to have opportunities to work with HealthPRO. The DVT contract strengthens our position in the acute care market in Canada."

Sue DiCroce, Director of Clinical Services at HealthPRO said; "We are excited to welcome ArjoHuntleigh as a new vendor and to offer our members a new category which will help them provide improved care for their patients. We pride ourselves on offering our members excellent savings and best price."

ArjoHuntleigh offers integrated solutions for the care of patients and residents with reduced mobility and related conditions in virtually all types of care environments covering the other following interrelated areas of care: Hygiene Systems, Patient Lifters, Disinfection, Therapeutic Support Surfaces, Acute Care Medical Beds and Wound Healing. Additional information:

ArjoHuntleigh with people in mind focuses on the needs of the patient or resident, caregiver and caregiver administration. ArjoHuntleigh was formed following the recent merger of ARJO and Huntleigh Healthcare. The original Huntleigh organization has almost 40 years of experience in manufacturing medical compression.

ArjoHuntleigh has over 50 years experience in Canada with over 100 employees, which includes 35 in sales & marketing and 42 in field service.

The risk factors for DVT include: prolonged immobility, cancer, heart and respiratory disease, obesity and a previous DVT. These can increase someone's risk and the more multiple factors the greater the risk. People are more susceptible to DVT if they are over 40 and undergo surgery. There are several other risk factors too.

DVT is a blood clot that develops in the calf, thigh or arm. If a fragment of the blood clot breaks off and moves to the lungs it is called a Pulmonary Embolism, and this is often fatal. The risk is greater for people after a period of limited movement or in patients with other diseases like cancer, heart or respiratory disease.

ArjoHuntleigh is a member of the Getinge AB Group who is a global provider of equipment and systems to customers within healthcare, extended care and pharmaceutical industries/laboratories. In 2007, the Getinge Group global sales exceeded CAD$2.7 billion dollars.

In Canada the Getinge Group comprises, Getinge, Maquet-Dynamed and ArjoHuntleigh.
