CDC Conducts Interoperability Tests with Orion Health's Rhapsody Integration Engine and CDC's PHIN Messaging System

Tracking disease outbreaks across the nation is critical to fast response to bioterrorism and general disease epidemics. Technology is a critical part in the accurate and fast collection of data from across the nation for the purposes of disease monitoring and analysis. CDC recognizes Rhapsody integration engine for its interoperability with its PHINMS, a critical component of the biosurveillance effort.

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) November 20, 2007 -- Orion Health, a leading provider of clinical workflow and integration technology for the healthcare sector, today announced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have completed interoperability testing between Orion Health Rhapsody Integration Engine™ and the CDC's Public Health Information Network Message System (PHINMS).

This recognition of interoperability means that healthcare workers at facilities can be assured of message transport function when using Rhapsody Integration Engine to communicate health data to and from the CDC through the PHIN system for the purpose of improved public health research and response. The statement from the CDC can be viewed on the CDC's Web site.

"Rhapsody enables health facilities to contribute to the national preparedness effort by streamlining and automating the process for messaging laboratory data into the PHIN disease surveillance system," said Paul Viskovich, President of Orion Health North America.

"The CDC's recognition of Rhapsody as an approved interoperability solution further validates the importance of message brokers as a key component of the biosurveillance effort."

The CDC Public Health Information Network (PHIN) is a national initiative to improve the capacity of public health to use and exchange information electronically by promoting the use of standards, defining functional and technical requirements. PHIN strives to improve public health by enhancing research and practice through best practices related to efficient, effective, and interoperable public health information systems

Local, State, and Federal public health professionals and organizations use the Public Health Information Network Messaging System, PHINMS, to rapidly and securely send sensitive health information over the Internet to other local, State, and Federal organizations as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Information such as HIV records, pandemics, and bioterrorism can be text, graphics, or any other file type. PHINMS locks down the health information so patients are ensured public health organizations are protecting their privacy.
