With patient status monitoring, the RES-Q Perioperative Resource Management system enables surgery departments to track and display case status information.

Calabasas, CA (PRWEB) January 10, 2008 -- RES-Q Healthcare Systems announced that it will demonstrate its new Patient Status Monitoring feature for RES-Q Perioperative Resource Management, its surgery staffing and scheduling software for hospitals, at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference & Exhibition. HIMSS will be held on February 24-28, 2008 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. RES-Q will be at booth #3317.

RES-Q Perioperative Resource Management assesses and confirms surgeons' procedure-specific preferences, staff and equipment requirements, supply lists and inventory, and operating room availability and then sets surgery schedules that diminish resource conflicts and boost productivity. "With data captured in RES-Q Perioperative Resource Management, Patient Status Monitoring automatically generates, updates, and graphically displays the status of surgery cases in real time," said Michael Meisel, president, RES-Q Healthcare Systems. "Hospital inpatient and same-day surgery departments can select and use different views designed for the waiting room, physician lounge and unit management."

The Patient Waiting Room View is similar to airline flight displays at airports. It shows an abbreviated patient identifier (first two letters of the last name and first name initial), the surgeon's name, the procedure, surgery start and completion times, and current status (Patient in OR, Surgery in Process, Patient in Recovery).

"By displaying the Patient Waiting Room View on a monitor in the waiting room, hospitals make it easier for families to stay informed," said Sharie Lieberg, R.N., manager of surgery systems, RES-Q Healthcare Systems. "This helps alleviate family members' anxiety."

The Physician Lounge View displays additional detail, such as the scheduled operating room number and the name of the anesthesiologist. Surgeons can see if their patients have entered the hospital, completed check-in and are prepped for surgery. In addition, a special notification option associated to the Physician Lounge View can send the case status information to surgeons via voice or text messages.

The "Big Board" View is customizable to provide even more detail for surgery unit managers to monitor case status. User-defined color codes enable surgery department staff to quickly view current room status and see at-a-glance in which operating rooms surgical procedures are currently in process or have been completed as well as which rooms are awaiting clean up.
