Northeast Center for Special Care Makes Two Presentations in Lisbon to International Brain Injury Association World Congress

Two Northeast Center for Special Care clinicians presented at the International Brain Injury Association's (IBIA) Seventh World Congress on Brain Injury which as convened in Lisbon, Portugal, from April 9 through 12, 2008. Kingston, NY (PRWEB) May 18, 2008 -- Anthony Salerno, President of the Northeast Center for Special Care welcomed the return of two of the Center's gifted clinicians from their presentations at the International Brain Injury Association's (IBIA) Seventh World Congress on Brain Injury which as convened in Lisbon, Portugal, from April 9 through 12, 2008. The IBIA World Congress is the largest international gathering of professionals working in the field of brain injury. Delegates are comprised of Neuroscientists, Physicians, Psychologists, Neuropsychologists, Therapists, Social Services professionals, Nursing professionals, Case Managers, Lawyers, Policy Makers, Advocates, and others working in the field of brain injury.
Northeast Center Program Director Gerry Brooks delivered an evidence-based oral presentation on brain injury rehabilitation and recovery entitled Unexpected Delayed Recovery after Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI.) Dr. Victor Zelek presented on the subject of EEG biofeedback entitled: QEEG Brainwave Amplitude and Coherence Values as Predictors of Cognitive Improvement to Neurofeedback After Moderate to Severe Acquired Brain Injury. Dr. Zelek noted: "The response to our study about use of neurofeedback at Northeast Center to treat individuals with moderate to severe brain injury was quite gratifying; the questions from an audience of this caliber were very incisive." The five day conference brought together over seven-hundred world renowned experts in the treatment of brain injury and included scientific and medical presentations by renowned clinicians John Povlishock, PhD,, David Arcineigas, MD, Nathan Zasler, MD, Barry Jordan, MD, Joseph Giacino, PhD, Steven Laureys, MD, PhD ,and Ollie Tenovuo, MD, among the many notable contributors. Based on a number of comments from the IBIA, both presentations were very well-received by conference attendees. Each year IBIA brings together the best and brightest professionals in the world of brain injury to collaborate and share their work among peers.
