QHR Client Hospital Administrator Receives Leadership Award

Tennessee Hospital Association Honors Dennis A. Wolford for Commitment to Small, Rural Hospitals

Brentwood, Tenn. (PRWEB) May 23, 2008 -- QHR President and Chief Executive Officer James L. Horrar today recognized Macon County General Hospital Administrator Dennis A. Wolford, who recently received the Tennessee Hospital Association's prestigious Small or Rural Leadership Award.

"At QHR, we appreciate leaders who are not only committed to their hospitals, but also to the communities they live in and serve," Horrar said when speaking of his QHR associate. "Dennis is a shining example of the kind of quality leader QHR champions every day, and we're proud of his accomplishments."

In addition to serving as Macon County General Hospital's chief administrator for nearly a quarter century, Wolford is active in a number of professional and civic organizations, including the Upper Cumberland Middle Tennessee Rural Health Network, Rural Health Association of Tennessee, Tennessee Hospital Association, Rotary Club and Macon County's chamber of commerce, health council and senior citizen center. He has been board certified in healthcare administration since 1988 and, in 1997, was named the Rural Health Association's Rural Health Worker of the Year.

Additionally, Wolford is credited with leading a highly successful hospital effort to treat nearly 100 wounded Tennesseans who were victims of a tornado that ripped through Macon County in February.

"Macon County General Hospital is a 25-bed facility that was suddenly faced with more patients than it could seemingly handle," he said. "But we did what we needed to do. We modified our emergency plan and, ultimately, everyone was taken care of.

"It was a tremendous team effort," Wolford added. "We're like family here and, in the end, our little hospital got the job done."

Wolford was presented with the Small or Rural Leadership Award at the Tennessee Hospital Association's 15th Annual Small and Rural Hospital Conference, which was held earlier this month in Nashville, Tenn.
