Lemurian Films today announced the release of the feature-length documentary "White Shadows" on DVD. Directed by Los Angeles filmmaker Mialyn Hanna, with music by Philip Glass, the critically acclaimed and award-winning film explores the life of celebrity hairstylist Dalee Henderson and his battle with HIV/AIDS.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2008 -- Lemurian Films today announced the release of the feature-length documentary "White Shadows" on DVD. Directed by Los Angeles filmmaker Mialyn Hanna, with music by Philip Glass, the critically acclaimed and award-winning film explores the life of celebrity hairstylist Dalee Henderson and his battle with HIV/AIDS. "White Shadows" has won awards at International Film festivals such as ARPA, Toronto's Rebelfest, the San Diego Black Film Festival, Best of NewFest at Bam and Best Music of a Documentary at Park City International Film Music Festival.

"I felt compelled to capture Dalee Henderson's spirit and positive outlook on film in the face of his many obstacles," said Director Mialyn Hanna, Lemurian Films. "He truly served as an inspiration for many and I wanted to celebrate his life and the gifts he brought to so many people of all walks of Life."

Growing up in extreme poverty and prejudice in the rural South, Dalee struggled as a gay African-American longing for success and a sense of belonging. Leveraging his iron will and determination, he moved to Los Angeles and achieved great success in the 1980s as a hairstylist working with luminaries such as Diana Ross, Denzel Washington and Stevie Wonder. He later is diagnosed as being HIV positive and must reconcile himself to the changes the disease wracks on his body and mind as well as the continued prejudice of his family and society. One of the most poignant decisions of Dalee's life is when he agonizes over taking experimental treatments or simply continuing to fight through sheer strength of will and faith in spirit. Through it all, he maintains an unwavering sense of humor and joy for life.
