Lifelinks Introduces No Wait VRS (Video Relay Service) for Deaf Community Using XO Communications

Lifelinks VRS, a provider of telephone call equivalency for the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities introduces no wait video relay services. Previously, deaf persons, who wanted to make a telephone call, would call a VRS provider, and be placed in a queue until an interpreter was available. With no-wait VRS, the deaf caller is connected with an interpreter directly, often within seconds.

(PRWEB) February 16, 2007 -- Lifelinks has increased its interpreter staff and has introduced technology to enable a deaf caller to "see" the interpreters who are "standing by" in front of computer monitors. As soon as the deaf person selects the interpreter of his/her choice, whether due to prior familiarity, good experience, preference for a male or female, etc., they just click their mouse and hola! The interpreter appears in front of them on their screen ready to take their calling request, day or night. "This represents a mammoth and revolutionary improvement in service quality over the legacy technology of other companies which do not have instant access to VRS sign language interpreters but rely on an agent to answer the call and can place the caller on unlimited hold, which can last for as long as 15-20 minutes, says Lifelinks spokesperson Helmi Gomez."

Uniquely, Lifelinks is capable of calling any country e.g. if the deaf caller wants to call her mother in Cuba or his friend in Russia, Lifelinks can make the call within seconds thanks to XO Communications connectivity.

Lifelinks VRS service is also accessible using a videophone such as VP-100™, VP-200™ or D-Link.Video Phone users just dial: 69.18.207.166.

Lifelinks is currently running a free web cam offer at freewebcam @ lifelinks.net.

Video relay services are funded by the FCC through NECA. Lifelinks services are available 24/7/365 to enable deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals to make the equivalent of a telephone call.Video relay has the advantage over TTY and IP-Relay in facilitating a naturalness and a normal give-and-take just like conversation between hearing persons, with the ability to interrupt, the other person's conversation when necessary, etc. Lifelinks can also enable the hearing person to listen to the voice of the deaf person, effectively a simultaneous 4-way conversation.
