Doctors, Teachers and School Counselors Are Bracing Themselves for 2009. Teen Stress, Anxiety and Depression Have Increased Sharply Over The Past Year

Terrence Mooney, Ph.D. and Cris Sorel, authors of the Instant Stress Relief For Teens program, believe preventive mental health measures need to be taken immediately.

Guilderland, NY (PRWEB) January 12, 2009 -- According to the authors of the Instant Stress Relief for Teens program the outcry from Doctors, Teachers, and School Counselors is deafening. When asked, "What are their chief concerns for teens today"? The answer is always emphatically, "Teens are overwhelmed with stress, anxiety, anger, and many are depressed; We are seeing children on a daily basis that are emotionally and physically sick; We have never had so many children ask for help; We try to teach them but we don't have enough time; We need parents to keep the stress level down at home; We need parents to learn these lessons along with their children; Parents are overwhelmed with anxiety and worry about their future. This is impacting the health of the entire family."

Cris Sorel, Practice Administrator of one of the largest psychological practices in Upstate New York, has seen thousands of stressed and anxious children come to their practice. Because of her deep concern she asked Dr. Terrence Mooney, Director of the Stress and Anxiety Clinic, at Karner Psychological Associates if he would collaborate with her on developing the Instant Stress Relief for Teens program.

They believe, along with the American Psychological Association, that the sooner a child learns and practices stress-reducing techniques, the better the results. They want to reach children as young as 12 years old. The coping skills they teach lock into memory in only 2-3 weeks.

Mrs. Sorel and Dr. Mooney knew that for teens and parents to be receptive it would have to be fast, fun, simple, interactive, motivational, and above all private. The authors have developed a four step plan:

·Help kids to identify distorted thinking and use proven techniques that turn their thinking around.

·Teach effective relaxation and stress-reducing skills that become an automatic response to stressors. An audio CD is included.

·Motivate them to set and reach manageable goals. This builds confidence and challenges them.

·Reinforce their feeling of being valued and important to the world.

The authors believe their program is unique because the entire family participates. Mrs. Sorel says, "It isn't about "fixing" the child. Its focus is helping families before stress spirals out of control rather than after-the-fact. In other cultures children are taught coping techniques by their parents at a very young age. We want to help parents to become role models so this generation in our country has a fighting chance of ending the stress, anxiety and depression epidemic. For this to happen they believe preventive mental health measures must be taken sooner rather than later."

Included in the program is a 125 page Instant Stress Relief Manual, Coaching Guidebook, which includes parent advice and coping skills, 7 Relaxation and Motivational Techniques on audio CD taught by a former patient, and 6 stress tools that make the program fun. The program is available in e-book format or hardcover.

School counselors and teachers should call Cris to obtain the program. Parents can download the program at a special rate and follow along with the teacher.

Prices range from $34.95 to $57.00. Take Action Today, Inc. 2280 Western Avenue, Guilderland, NY 12084. Contact: Cris Sorel; Days: (866) 770-6377 Evenings: (518) 482-3933, http://www.InstantStressReliefForTeens.com.
