Bipolar Central Educates Readers and Raises Support for the Meehl Foundation

The Bipolar Central Webs site is running an article to inform readers about The Meehl Foundation, a nonprofit organization in need of financial support to continue its work and appeal a recent legal decision.

Stanhope, New Jersey (PRWEB) November 14, 2007 -- Bipolar Central, a Web site dedicated to providing information about bipolar disorder, recently issued a feature article highlighting a Texas nonprofit that supports individuals with the mental illness. The nonprofit organization, known as The Meehl Foundation, recently faced a huge hurdle when its attempts to open a group home for people with bipolar disorder were impeded.

The Meehl Foundation has plans to open The Meehl House, a transitional residential group home designed to help stable, recovery-minded individuals with bipolar disorder and related illnesses transition to independent living. A recent legal ruling, however, determined that The Meehl Foundation cannot operate the group home.

The ruling seems to contradict several federal and state laws that protect group homes, according to Bipolar Central. Among these laws are the Community Homes for Disabled Persons Location Act passed in Texas in 1985; House Bill 356 passed in Texas on June 1, 1987; and The Fair Housing Act Amendments of 1988 passed by Congress. The Meehl Foundation plans to appeal the decision on these grounds.

Bipolar Central's recent article is intended to inform its readers about the Meehl Foundation and how this ruling could negatively affect the bipolar community, while also encouraging readers to consider financially supporting The Meehl Foundation.
