President of The Brain Injury Association of Virginia Calls for Summit of All Brain Injury Entities and Professionals

President of The Brain Injury Association of Virginia calls for Summit of all Brain injury entities and professionals in response to findings of Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission exposing Crisis in lack of services for Brain Injury Survivors in Virginia.

Hampton, VA (PRWEB) September 11, 2007 -- Stephen M. Smith-President of The Brain Injury Association of Virginia and founder of The Brain Injury Law Center today called for a Summit of all Brain Injury related entities and professionals throughout Virginia to address the shocking findings of the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission report issued yesterday.

Smith cites the report as an official cry for help for traumatic brain injury survivors throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and documents what he and other brain injury specialists have been lamenting for decades.

"The simple things that we take for granted are denied to these victims of an insidious and pervasive epidemic. These members of the population are horribly underserved. The tragedy of this is that the majority of these survivors look 'normal' but their lives are a living hell."

Smith has demanded this Summit to address the issue that confronts over 1,500,000 Americans every year who acquire traumatic brain injuries. A new brain injury occurs every 15 seconds in America. Smith cites the new CDC definitions of brain injury to encompass what he and other brain injury experts have been confronting daily for decades.

"This is more than a wake up call, It is a crisis that has reached full proportion. No more Band Aids. These victims are in desperate need of services now!"

In addition to his duties as President of The Brain Injury Association of Virginia, Smith is the founder of The Brain Injury Law Center, a law firm dedicated exclusively to representing Brain Injury Survivors throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States.
