New York, NY (PRWEB) May 8, 2008 -- Early bird registration is now available for the 2008 Annual Education Summit, the NLN's much anticipated professional gathering for nurse educators and leaders in nursing education coast-to-coast.

This year's Summit theme: The Power of Diversity in Nursing Education: Embracing Differences in Heritage & Thought, will provide an opportunity to explore how those in advanced practice educator roles, responsible for preparing a nursing workforce to care for diverse populations, can address diversity-related inequities in the classroom, clinical settings, research and scholarship. Explained NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, "Through presentations by leaders in nursing education, workshops and seminars, the Summit will provide a wealth of ideas, information, and inspiration to fulfill the NLN's strategic goal to promote diversity across the entire spectrum of nursing education programs."

Why do we need to capitalize on the power of diversity in nursing education? How can we embrace differences in heritage and thought? Gloria L. Smith, PhD, MPH, FAAN, FRCN, retired vice president of the W. K Kellogg Foundation and an American Academy of Nursing Living Legend, will provide compelling evidence in this year's Keynote Address on Wednesday, September 17.

Moderated by Sr. Rosemary Donley, SC, PhD, C-NAP, RN, FAAN, the plenary session on Thursday features a panel of thought leaders on diversity who will challenge everyone present to reflect on the systems and policy-level changes needed to expand diversity in the nurse educator workforce to meet the needs of diverse learners Friday, September 19 begins with Dr. Malone's CEO Summit address and the National Faculty Meeting - where nurse educators from all types of programs and settings discuss issues of common concern - and ends with the NLN Foundation Fiesta fundraiser overlooking the famous San Antonio Riverwalk.

In addition to the paper and poster presentations, workshops, and symposia, participants won't want to miss the other stimulating events planned for Summit 2008: the Centers of Excellence and grants presentations, the Debra Spunt Lecture; and the (new) Town Meeting. The President's Reception, followed by the Academy of Nursing Education Fellows Induction and Awards Banquet will provide a perfect ending to an invigorating conference.
