Americans Misled About Omega 3, According to Omega Cure Manufacturer Ambo Health

Omega 3 consumption (derived from fish or fish oil) is insufficient among Americans, putting heart health at risk, suggests a Journal of American College of Cardiology article. Ambo Health, which manufactures supplements, strives to bring the American population up to speed on the nutrient.

Venice, FL (PRWEB) August 14, 2008 -- Only a sufficiently high dose of effective omega 3 (www.omega-cure.com) (EPA/DHA from fish) will yield substantial cardiovascular benefits, stated Ambo Health, pointing to a new international study of omega 3 fish oil.

The study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), compared the blood levels of Japanese men with those of Japanese-American men. The Japanese men, who consumed three times as much effective omega 3 as their American counterparts, had one-third less incidence of arteriosclerosis, a finding that excluded genetic differences and may explain why Japan now has the longest-living population and lowest rate of heart disease in the Western world.

The average EPA/DHA consumption in the United States, however, is equivalent to the bottom five percent of the Japanese' intake.

Experts have calculated that Americans need to take at least one extra gram of EPA/DHA per day to reach the same blood levels as the average Japanese. That is equivalent to four regular fish oil (www.omega-cure.com) capsules or eating two oz of "oily" fish every day.

"So many Americans are being misled to think that popping one capsule of fish oil is going to give them heart protection," said Dr. Bo Martinsen, an omega 3 specialist located in Sarasota, FL, and co-founder of Ambo Health.

Leading EPA/DHA specialist Professor W. Harris of the University of South Dakota wrote in a JACC editorial that omega 3 can have a profound impact on arteriosclerosis, but it requires a lifelong commitment to increased EPA/DHA intake. According to Harris, using a high dose of fish oil for a short period of time is unlikely to produce long-term health benefits.

"Either you have to get serious about taking omega 3, or you might as well stop wasting your money on low doses of fish oil," said Dr. Martinsen.

To alleviate the dosage problem, Ambo Health is now launching Omega Cure Minis, a liquid fish oil supplement that comes in a prepackaged daily dose of two grams EPA/DHA. Tasteless and fresh, Omega Cure Minis can be added to juice, yogurt, or salad dressing, or taken straight. Daily use will bring EPA/DHA consumption up to the level associated with the best results measured in the heart study.

Ambo Health is a physician-directed company based in Venice Florida. Ambo Health manufactures Omega Cure and Omega Cure Minis, both of which have a light fruity flavor, are independently certified to be free of heavy metals or toxins, and offer pure, natural EPA/DHA omega 3 (www.omega-cure.com) protection. To ensure freshness, Omega Cure and Omega Cure Minis are sold directly to consumers by home delivery.
