Campaign awards family with organic grocery spree and kitchen time with celebrity chef

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) May 29, 2008 -- Go Organic! for Earth Day™, a national campaign that educates and increases consumer awareness of the benefits of organic food and agriculture, today announced the winner of its national organic grocery makeover contest. Jennifer Boaz and family of Lee’s Summit, Mo., will receive a full pantry, refrigerator and freezer makeover and cooking lesson with “Mom-a-licious” chef Domenica Catelli on June 30.

Go Organic! for Earth Day kicked off this year’s campaign by giving families nationwide an opportunity to win an organic grocery makeover. Contestants submitted photos of their family, pantry, refrigerator and freezer, and provided a brief explanation of why they needed a fresh new start. Entries were judged on the family’s desire to adopt organic and the opportunity to make a significant change in the food they eat.

Boaz submitted a poem that highlighted the benefits of organic farming to humans and the planet, but her desire to feed her family organic food goes beyond the environmental impact. This includes having the confidence that organic food is free of unnecessary additives or ingredients she cannot pronounce. Additionally, she wants to nourish her family with a variety of healthy food options as opposed to junk food that many children are raised on.

“The main objective of the Go Organic! campaign is to generate awareness and encourage the adoption of organic products,” said Michael Martin, Prez of MusicMatters. “We are pleased to honor the Boaz family with free organic groceries and kitchen time with Chef Catelli. This will certainly make a positive change that will benefit the economic and personal health of the family while reducing the environmental impact on our planet.”

Credited with encouraging children to eat vegetables without hiding the ingredients, Catelli’s first cookbook, “Mom-a-licious: Fresh fast, family food for the hot mama in you!” was an instant hit across the nation and provides families with tasty, easy and healthy recipes. Catelli will join the family at the grocery store and provide organic cooking demonstrations, recipes and pantry makeover tips.

“I am always telling families to make incremental changes to their pantry if they are overwhelmed with the thought of an entire makeover. But with this contest, the Boaz family will make a rare, dramatic and unforgettable change to go completely organic and learn easy recipes that will become part of their family tradition,” said Catelli. “Because many ingredients in our cabinets can be harmful, I find that people are surprised and determined to change when they become aware. This event is inspirational and will positively impact not only the Boaz family, but their friends, neighbors and other families across the nation.”

Five additional winners will receive a $200 gift certificate, a signed copy of the “Mom-a-licious” cookbook and a Nubius Organics Earth Day stainless steel water bottle.

In addition to the grocery makeover contest, the Go Organic! campaign is offering the chance to win an all-expenses paid bed and breakfast getaway sponsored by Stonyfield Farm at the Stanford Inn by the Sea. One lucky winner and a guest will receive a five-night stay at the resort overlooking the Mendocino Coast of Calif. To enter, visit www.OrganicEarthDay.org. All entries must be received by Aug. 31, 2008.

Go Organic! for Earth Day is supported by leading organic manufacturers, including CLIF Bar & Co., Lifeway Foods, R.W. Knudsen Family, Santa Cruz Organic, Stonyfield Farm, Van’s International Foods and Horizon Organic.
