Dr. Paul M. Parker Specializes in Techniques For Male Cosmetic Surgery, New Jersey

While the procedures are similar, there is a marked difference in technique when dealing with aesthetic surgery for men versus women. For male cosmetic surgery, New Jersey (http://www.parkercenter.net/plastic_surgery_procedures_men.html) plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker, believes it's very important to be conservative in the approach. The secret is not overdoing so as to retain a masculine but refreshed appearance.

Paramus, NJ (PRWEB) December 16, 2008 -- According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) over 1 million men chose to have either cosmetic surgery or a non invasive cosmetic procedure in 2007. While these numbers are a mere shadow when compared with women, men represent a slow but steadily growing market segment interested in holding back or reversing the hands of time.

Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Parker, in Paramus, NJ, says that approximately 11% of his patients are men, "Our practice offers men everything from simple skincare to injectables to surgery. There have never been so many choices for improving one's appearance. Men's heightened interest in diet and exercise has spilled over into cosmetic enhancement--especially in the category of non invasive procedures."

Dr. Parker is a proponent of Obagi skincare products for non-invasive skin treatment. They offer a well designed program that is easy and very effective in making skin look and stay healthier. "What it does is improve cell turnover, reduce fine lines and minimize hyperpigmentation. I use it myself. It's just an extended washing of the face."

Other non-invasive techniques, injectables and fillers, have become man's (new) best friend in erasing the stressful expressions characterized by the creases between the eyebrows and scowling lines in the forehead. In a short 15 minute session, transverse lines and crow's feet disappear, creating a more relaxed, less stressed out, more youthful appearance. Full effects of Botox take about three days to manifest and can last up to 6 months. Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse replace lost volume and act as fillers for deeper wrinkles and folds for facial contouring including the eye area. Fillers can last up to a year.

The most common surgical procedures for men in 2007 (ASAPS) were liposuction, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty and male breast reduction - in that order. Dr. Parker is a liposuction specialist. Dr. Parker comments on liposuction for men, New Jersey (http://www.parkercenter.net/before_and_after_photos_men_liposuction.html), "Like women, men will find certain areas of their body are resistant to change regardless of diet and exercise. But unlike women who experience excess fat in their inner and outer thighs, men's fat goes to their abdomen and "love handles." Liposuction is a great method of body contouring."

Gynecomastia, or male breast enlargement can make men extremely self conscious. The condition is usually hereditary but can also be the result of being overweight or having certain medical conditions. In any case, Dr. Parker has successfully corrected gynecomastia transforming breast tissue into very smooth, firm chests with male breast reduction, New Jersey (http://www.parkercenter.net/before_and_after_photos_men_gynecomastia.html). "Most patients respond well to liposuction alone. The technology with VASER ultrasonic liposuction is terrific. There is a designated cannula featuring a specially designed bullet tip that not only gives great results, but lessens the overall recovery and discomfort. There's no reason to suffer the embarrassment of this condition."

Other popular procedures include eyelid surgery, browlifts and face lift for men. New Jersey (http://www.parkercenter.net/before_and_after_photos_men_facelift.html) Dr. Parker's male patients usually visit him with concerns about their eyes or neck. "The eyes are usually the first features to reflect the telltale signs of aging. Bags under the eyes and drooping lids can make a man look tired. Rejuvenating the eyes makes an immediate impact. The same is true of a browlift. Even a slight elevation refreshes the appearance and counteracts an angry expression." Both of these surgeries are outpatient based.

Younger men with good skin tone, but an ill defined neck often benefit from liposuction along with a chin implant for a stronger, more masculine profile. Older men usually have poor skin tone that won't respond to liposuction alone. If skin is sagging or jowling, a necklift or face lift may be indicated. Most face lifts encompass mid, lower face and neck.

Again, the secret is in not overdoing says Dr. Parker, "It's important to be conservative with men so as to improve their features without feminizing them. I recommend men grow a temporary beard to camouflage any bruising and swelling. In two to three weeks they can shave and no one can guess they've had surgery. My goal is always to make my patients look better--not different or obvious. Some of my happiest patients are men, but most prefer to go incognito."
