Solutions 2007 Event Examines Holistic Education Practices to Address Student Behavior

The Provenio Group and Freedom Through Education will host Solutions 2007, focusing on holistic education practices to improve grades and student behavior in California Schools.

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) January 11, 2007 -- The Provenio Group (www.proveniogroup.com), a company that provides online curriculum and assessment tools to address student social and emotional needs, and Freedom Through Education, a Sacramento-based organization that addresses classroom student behaviors, today announced that its Solutions 2007 forum will address holistic education as a means to improve grades and student behavior in California schools.

Solutions 2007 is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2007, 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the California State Capital in Senate Hearing room 4203. The event will feature presenters from the education community who will address academic and behavioral issues in the classroom.

"Holistic education practices combine academic strictures with the necessary social, emotional, developmental and behavioral supports needed to develop a well-rounded student who succeeds in and out of the classroom," said Provenio President Jay Burcham. "In today's world, it's not enough just to make good grades. Our students have to graduate understanding how to become productive citizens."

The event will include presentations by:

  • Keynote speaker, Michael Pritchard, a motivational speaker praised by the Wall Street Journal, CNN and Time magazine for his ability to use humor to inspire and educate his audience on communication skills. Pritchard will use his background as a juvenile counselor in San Francisco's Youth Guidance Center to discuss the students' role in the educational process, stressing how students need to be involved in the process and not just instructed.

  • Bill Lane, founder of the Freedom Through Education, which helps teachers gain control of classroom behavior by at-risk youth, will discuss practical steps teachers can take to control disruptive students.

  • Burcham will discuss the educator's role in providing a complete education, covering how to incorporate life's lessons into the daily school regimen.

"While the nation rallies behind the education mantra of "no child left behind," the truth is that many children who do not have home and social supports are not being taught the lessons necessary to succeed in life," said Burcham. "At Solutions 2007 we'll discuss best practices for academic success as well as how to work with the 63 percent of youths who are sexually active by 12th grade, or the 17 percent of students who admit to carrying a weapon to school or the many other social and behavioral problems that are plaguing our nation's children."
