The Association of Educational Therapists Announces a Registered Trademark for Its Professional Members

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has officially registered the mark Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P)â for use by individuals who have reached the Professional level of membership in The Association of Educational Therapists (AET). Professional membership requirements in AET entail rigorous study, time and effort. This new designation will be evidence to the public of the expertise and skills these members of the profession have achieved.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 5, 2008 -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has officially registered the mark Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P) for use by individuals who have reached the Professional level of membership in The Association of Educational Therapists (AET). A description of the services associated with this designation as well as the qualifications for its use follows. Professional membership requirements in AET entail rigorous study, time and effort. This new designation will be evidence to the public of the expertise and skills these members of the profession have achieved.

The mark Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P) is to be used by educational therapists for the following services:
- Educational services, namely providing intensive, individualized remedial intervention to children and adults with learning disabilities and other disorders or problems that interfere with learning in conventional ways;

  • Assessing the nature and scope of such disorders or problems;
  • Managing client cases;
  • Advocating for clients in their home, school, or community setting.
Professional Members of AET who have documented their qualifications may use the (ET/P) after their name(s).

The qualifications for AET Professional Membership and use of Educational Therapist/Professional (ET/P) include:

  • Master's Degree or equivalent
  • 1,500 direct service hours as an educational therapist in private practice, public or private schools, private clinics, hospitals or public agencies.
  • For candidates beginning the direct service requirements, a minimum of one-third (500 hours) must be completed under the supervision of an AET Board Certified Educational Therapist.
The Association of Educational Therapists (AET) is the national professional organization dedicated to defining the professional practice of educational therapy, setting standards for ethical practice, and promoting state-of-the-art service delivery through on-going professional development and training programs. AET provides information to the public about educational therapy and facilitates access to educational therapy services.
