Akaza Research Announces Plans for Releasing New Version of OpenClinica Electronic Data Capture (EDC) Software

Akaza Research announces the forthcoming release version 2.5 of OpenClinica, the popular open source clinical trial software (http://www.openclinica.org).

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) August 5, 2008 -- This summer Akaza Research expects to release version 2.5 of OpenClinica, the popular open source clinical trial software (http://www.openclinica.org). This release represents a major milestone in the availability of enterprise quality open source software for electronic data capture (EDC) and clinical data management. The release contains improvements to both the system's back and front-ends, and promises to further increase the appeal of OpenClinica to academic, CRO, and industry research sponsors:

Key enhancements in OpenClinica 2.5 include:

-    Rules engine for executing cross-field or cross-form edit checks and triggering notifications to users

-    Scoring calculations (derived values) in case report forms (CRFs)

-    New user roles for monitors and data managers

-    Improved monitoring/query management tools and discrepancy note reporting

-    Electronic signature capabilities

-    Ability to copy and edit previously created datasets

-    Improved auditing and logging capabilities

-    Simpler CRF upload

-    Improved support for CDISC ODM v1.3

-    Support for Oracle DB Backend out of the box.

-    Minor UI and application fixes from OpenClinica 2.2

-    Improved performance and scalability

Until the production version is available, users may download OpenClinica 2.5-beta2 from http://svn.akazaresearch.com/OpenClinica-2.5-distros/. OpenClinica 2.5 will maintain backwards compatibility with earlier versions of the software. An upgrade package will be provided with the production release.
