New York Rangers Using Tart Cherries to Combat Muscle Soreness in Training Regimen; British Journal of Medicine Study Demonstrates Efficacy of a Tart Cherry Juice Blend in Preventing the Symptoms of Muscle Damage

New York Rangers are using tart cherries as a means to combat muscle soreness from rigorous workouts and games. They have been using this natural therapy since 2005 when they began experiencing the benefit of an all natural tart cherry juice that later showed promise in a clinical trial in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Geneva, NY (PRWEB) January 3, 2007 -- The New York Rangers are on the leading edge of a trend where national sports teams are looking to nature for a solution to the aches and pains associated with major league competition. Recovering from strenuous sports like ice hockey can be a real challenge for athletes. The Rangers drink tart cherry juice regularly before and after workouts and games. Since 2005, they have been incorporating CherryPharm, an all natural-tart cherry juice into their regimen after noticing real post-exercise benefits. Now, professional and college level athletes around the world are beginning to use tart cherries, particularly in the form of juice, as a way to deal with the ongoing issue of exercise induced muscle pain, and loss of training time due to muscle soreness.

A clinical trial performed at the University of Vermont Human Performance Lab on CherryPharm, was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine in June, 2006. The study showed a significant decrease in the symptoms of post-exercise muscle damage in college aged males following regular consumption of CherryPharm. In particular, strength loss, pain, and recovery time were all significantly reduced versus a placebo. British Journal of Medicine

"The number of people that can benefit from our juice is limitless," says John Davey, President and Founder of CherryPharm. "It's an amazing validation to have a team like the New York Rangers embrace our product but when I get calls and emails from people whose chronic conditions like the one I used to have are feeling better thanks to our all-natural juice ... that's what's really getting me excited."

Long suffering from years of back pain, Davey had tried just about every possible remedy he could find to deal with the chronic pain and inflammation in his lower back. But after hearing about academic research and eventually benefiting from the daily consumption of tart cherries, Davey left his lucrative job as a Wall Street banker and teamed up with Cornell food scientists to create a pure tart cherry juice that could be used by both athletes and those interested in the therapeutic health benefits of the fruit. University and government research has shown that consumption of 45 tart cherries a day can lower certain inflammatory markers in the bloodstream (tart cherries are different in composition from the sweet cherries that most consumers are familiar with). Other academic research has shown that tart cherries are packed with a variety of powerful antioxidants and other polyphenols. CherryPharm has the equivalent of 50 tart cherries in each 8 fl. oz. bottle -- the juice is made from whole fruit, not from concentrate.

CherryPharm is currently funding three additional clinical trials on its product with two separate Ivy League universities and another major public university. Results will be available upon completion of the studies.
