Bergen County NJ Based Surgeon Offers Hip Arthroscopy - Dr. Raphael Longobardi Announces New Procedure During National Bone & Joint Awareness Week

Dr. Raphael S. F. Longobardi of University Orthopaedic Center in Hackensack, NJ offers hip arthroscopy

Hackensack, NJ (PRWEB) October 10, 2007 -- Dr. Raphael S. F. Longobardi, MD, FAAOS of the University Orthopedic Center, P.A., announced today the addition of hip arthroscopy to his inventory of viable safe solutions to bone & joint issues.

National Bone & Joint Awareness week is being recognized this year during the week of October 12 -20, 2007. "I am pleased to bring my expertise to such a growing issue in the Northeast United States and especially to announce it during our profession's awareness week," stated Longobardi, "My patients are pleased with this newer minimally invasive procedure as it allows our active generation to get back to work and play sooner."

Longobardi is utilizing hip arthroscopy' in his orthopedic/sports medicine practice to address the needs of those patients burdened by continuous pain caused by exercise, sports and work related issues or strains from daily activities. Longobardi is amongst only a handful of orthopedic surgeons trained in this procedure. Arthroscopic procedures on the hip can treat a variety of conditions. Labral tears, articular cartilage injuries, loose bodies and even tendon or ligament injuries can all be successfully managed arthroscopically through multiple tiny holes. Since all of these conditions may eventually lead to hip arthritis, treating them early with arthroscopic procedures may be beneficial to the patient and prevent later hip replacement.

"Patients today are leading more active lifestyles and thus, injuries to joints and muscles are occurring more frequently." said Longobardi, "With this continuous trend, advancements in orthopedics need to keep the same pace. Adding hip arthroscopy for the management of painful conditions will open the doors for many patients who are burdened by hip pain. Hip arthroscopy allows more freedom to explore the site at which pain is persistent. Hip arthroscopy is performed through small incisions to accommodate a small camera and instruments needed to diagnose and correct any problems in the area. A further explanation can be seen on an animated video on Longobardi's web site www.universityorthopaedic.com.

Dr. Longobardi, a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and numerous other medical associations, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Medical Center and has been honored by the Lillian S. Lusskin Orthopedic Foundation for Excellence in Teaching. He is affiliated with Hackensack Medical Center, Holy Name Hospital and New York University Medical Center and the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. Dr. Longobardi has also served as Team Physician to the Florida Marlins Baseball Team, the U.S. Tennis Association, the NY/NJ MetroStars Soccer Team, the New York Islanders Hockey Team, and numerous other professional and collegiate sports teams.
