Local Surgeon Elected President of Boston Area Hospital Medical Staff

William J. Doherty, M.D., a partner in the group medical practice Orthopedic Surgery, Inc. (OSI) in Melrose, Massachusetts, has been elected president of the medical staff of Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for a two-year term.

(PRWEB) March 29, 2007 -- William J. Doherty, M.D., of Andover, Massachusetts, and a partner in the group medical practice Orthopedic Surgery, Inc. (OSI) in Melrose, has been elected president of the medical staff of Melrose-Wakefield Hospital for a two-year term.    

In his leadership role, Dr. Doherty, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and a specialist in hand surgery, will represent the medical staff's interests with hospital administration. He will also preside over the hospital's Medical Executive Committee, an elected body of staff leaders representing various departments.

Dr. Doherty is a graduate of Georgetown University where he received his undergraduate, graduate and medical degrees. He completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Connecticut and a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of New Mexico. He joined OSI in 1993.

Founded in 1969, OSI provides a range of non-surgical and surgical treatments in the areas of sports medicine, joint repair and replacement, arthritis related conditions and trauma care. The practice serves patients in numerous North Shore communities from offices in Melrose, Medford, Wakefield and Winchester.

Melrose-Wakefield Hospital is a part of Hallmark Health System, a nonprofit, community-based healthcare system serving Boston's northern suburbs. Hallmark Health is affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital for cardiology and Tufts-New England Medical Center for neonatology, and works to advance the quality of healthcare at the local level.
