Bangkok Hospital Medical Center Announces An Additional Service, Hip Resurfacing

Thailand (PRWEB) April 3, 2008 -- Bangkok Hospital Medical Center Announces An Additional Service, Hip Resurfacing. This is an alternative for selected patients to the conventional Hip replacement operation. Bangkok Orthopedic Center has for many years been providing advanced techniques to treat a wide range of bone problems; this is a further advance.

Our Orthopedic surgeons at the hospital are turning to this new technique "Hip Resurfacing" in an effort to provide more physical flexibility to the patient. Dr. Sombat Rojviroj Director of the Bangkok Hospital Orthopedic Center said hip resurfacing has been shown to eliminate the problems of proximal femoral stress shielding and bone resorting caused by the plastic wear debris associated with traditional plastic on metal total hip significantly reduces the problem of leg lengthening. The procedure is easier on the patient and recovery time is faster.

The Hip resurfacing procedure is primarily intended for use in people who are in need of a hip replacement and are under the age of 55. People aged between 55 and 65 who are very active and otherwise fit may also be suitable. This can be determined by their bone density quality and activity level. If any part of the hip is damaged or degenerated, movement can be limited. Even without injury, cartilage can crack and wear away in time.

Some of the most common surgical procedures that we provide are arthroplasty - or total joint replacement - of the elbow, knee, and hip - a process where an arthritic or dysfunctional joint surface is replaced or remodeled and then realigned. An example of such a procedure is a hip-joint replacement with a prosthetic device to relieve pain and restore motion. Bangkok Hospital has a wide variety of prosthetic devices at its disposal and the expertise necessary to ensure successful joint replacement.
